The projects and foundations under the aegis of the Innovation and Transitions Foundation act in a various fields and can be grouped into three strong thematic areas:
  • Knowledge
  • Healthcare
  • Solidarity

Knowledge

The projects and initiatives carried out by all these structures are in line with the strategy and ambitions of the Innovation and Transitions Foundation.
Encoded in its very statutes, the mission of the Innovation and Transitions Foundation is to promote the advancement of knowledge and innovation in its region.

It has followed this guiding principle since its creation in 1917 under the name Fondation Scientifique de Lyon et du Sud-Est (Scientific Foundation of Lyon and the Southeast), whose ambition was to contribute to the industrial, economic, and social development of its region through the teaching of knowledge.

It has therefore always maintained close ties with key players in academia and economic development, with the aim of fostering fruitful cooperation between stakeholders in knowledge and development, and disseminating knowledge to as many people as possible.

Over time, the foundation has evolved to better respond to contemporary challenges. In 2012, it was renamed the Fondation pour l'Université de Lyon in order to put its expertise at the service of the Lyon-St-Étienne university site and respond to the challenges of the Idex (Initiative D'Excellence). It is thus working to establish public-private partnerships on major structural projects for universities.

Today, building on its rich history, the foundation is expanding its scope of action to bring greater visibility to local projects and is continuing its work with higher education institutions by hosting a dozen foundations and projects that actively contribute to the dissemination and promotion of knowledge.

Healthcare

Comprising several large university hospitals and nationally and internationally renowned research centers, the region's positioning encourages the emergence of numerous startups and companies specializing in medical technologies and biotechnologies.

Support for research activities in cancer, neuroscience, and other scientific disciplines, science outreach to disadvantaged audiences, support for medical projects, etc.

Through these various concerns, which form the core of the activities of the projects and foundations it hosts, the Innovation and Transitions Foundation and its community are fully integrated into the identity of its region in order to contribute to the health, well-being, and quality of life of its inhabitants.

Solidarity

The foundation's recent shift towards a societal focus demonstrates its commitment to responding to emerging challenges in its region. By supporting foundations working in the field of social and solidarity economy, the Innovation and Transitions Foundation demonstrates its commitment to promoting innovative, solidarity-based projects with a positive impact, aimed at fostering social and environmental progress.

This transition towards a societal approach reflects the foundation's desire to adapt to the changing needs of its region and to support it in addressing new contemporary issues.

By acting as an interface between academic, institutional, and socio-economic actors, the foundation is a valuable tool for those who aspire to improve quality of life and play an essential role in building a more equitable and sustainable future for all. By promoting collaboration and social innovation, it has established itself as a key player in promoting collective well-being and creating a more fair world.
